We would like to welcome you and your child to Year 2's class page. There will be lots of exciting things being added to the this page throughout the year. We hope your find the information useful. If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to find one of us as we will be more than happy to assist you with any of your concerns.

Meet the Year 2 Team

 

Year 2 Staff (ID 1104)

Every morning, staff are available at the entrances into school for you to pass on quick messages or ask questions. If you need a more private moment, or need to speak to your child’s teacher at length, you are very welcome to make an appointment.

General Information

School times

School starts at 8.45am and ends at 3:15pm. Please try hard to get your child to school on time and to collect them promptly. If your child is late, it is extremely important that you come in via the main reception to let the office staff know your child has arrived.

Absences 

If your child is absent please ring the school office in the morning   to let us

know the reason. The school telephone number is 01922 710874

Playtime and Dinnertime

There is one playtime for Year 2 which takes place in the morning. During the morning playtime the children can buy a slice of toast for 20p. The pieces of toast are limited to one per child and the children are responsible for their own money. Please try to send in the correct change.

Lunch time

Children will eat their packed lunch or a school dinner in the dinner hall. Please remember that year 2 are eligible for ‘Free School Meals’. Please note that ‘Universal Free School Meals’ stop at the end of Year 2.

Once your child has finished their lunch, they will get the opportunity to play with their friends on the KS1 playground. 

Fruit: At Beacon, we encourage healthy eating and ensure your child is given a daily choice of fruit which is free of charge.

Water bottles: Children will need to bring in their own clearly labelled water bottle from home each day. These bottles must be taken home at the end of each day for cleaning and refilling.

Uniform expectations

Please write your child’s name in each item of clothing so that we can return any lost items. 

Your child needs to wear:

  • White long or short sleeved shirt or a white polo shirt
  • Grey or black trousers/ skirt/ pinafore dress
  • Red v neck sweatshirt / cardigan (This does not have to have the Beacon logo)
  • Red and white checked summer dress
  • Sensible black shoes
  • Red and black elastic tie.

The above uniform can be purchased from any retailer e.g. Asda, Tesco, Morisons, Sainsburys , etc...

If you want to purchase a jumper/ cardigan with the Beacon Logo it can be purchased from Crested School wear. (see link below)

Birthday Treat

As a special treat on their birthday the children can come to school in their own clothes.

PE Kit

For PE the children need:

  • A ‘Beacon’ t-shirt in their house colour

 (Red, Blue, Green or Yellow)

  • A pair of pumps or trainers
  • Black shorts

During the winter months the children can wear a pair of black jogging bottoms and a black jumper/ hoodie over their PE kit. These can be left in school in their PE bag.

How to support your child's learning at home

Year 2 Homework Expectations

Weekly the children will receive:

  • Home reader- a book to read and share with an adult. The adult is expected to record comments in the reading log and sign it, before a new book is sent home. Children are expected to change their home reader a minimum of once a week. 
  • 10 Spellings- A spelling list will be provided each week and tested on the following week. The spelling are based on what pattern has been taught at school, as well as some common exception words. Handwriting is part of this, as the children have to Look, Say, Cover and write the words.
  • Times tables practise- 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x & 10x
  • Maths or English Homework.

Helping your child at home

Homework

Homework is given weekly on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday at the very latest. In addition to homework, please ensure you read with your child as much as possible. Once you have read with your child, please write a comment in their home reading record book. Reading books and reading record books should be in school every day, as the children need them in their lessons. Each class has a challenge to see who can read the most times in a half term.
